Sunshine State Scholars From FloridaLearns STEM Scholars Project (Note: All students are not pictured)
On an annual basis, each Florida district names its highest-achieving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) 11th grade student. This student, designated as the district’s Sunshine State Scholar, joins other Sunshine State Scholars from around the state for a recognition event that is hosted by the Florida Education Foundation in partnership with the Division of Florida Colleges, the State University System of Florida, and the Florida Department of Education. This year’s event was held in Orlando on February 19, 2015. Program sponsors included the Helios Education Foundation, AT&T, Universal Orlando Resorts, Blue Man Group, Atkins, the Florida Lottery, Gulf Power, and Nestle Waters.
The 2015 list of Florida’s Sunshine State Scholars includes 22 students who are also FloridaLearns STEM Scholars participants. On behalf of the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium, Heartland Educational Consortium, North East Florida Educational Consortium, educators in the districts they represent, and FloridaLearns STEM Scholars personnel, each of these students is commended for superior academic work and dedication to STEM learning.
